Gardner and Scardfield met Sussex FA at their Culver Road, Lancing ground last night in a football match that was closely contended right up to the final whistle.

In balmy, 22 degree heat both teams played with passion and commitment. The first half belonged to Sussex FA, who showed more experience and discipline, grabbing an early lead and pulling away to 3-1 by half time. However in the second half Gardi's started to play better and leveled the score at 4 apiece. Two magnificent goals from James Stakim being the highlights of the match. Despite going behind again to a well taken penalty, Gardi's continued to press right up until the end. 5-4 to Sussex FA was the final result.

All in all both teams put on a creditable performance that the sizable crowd really enjoyed. The late, contentious penalty sets up the end-of-season re-match very nicely. The Gardi players will want to reverse the defeat for sure.
