Seed potatoes are now available from our Garden Centre situated at 1- 3 South Street Lancing. Late January is the perfect time to start chitting potatoes ready to sow in mid March. To chit seed potatoes simply position them so that sunlight can reach the most number of ‘eyes’. Eyes are parts of the potato which sprouts appear from. It is recommended to chit potatoes indoors and this can be done easily by placing the potatoes in empty egg boxes near a window. It is advisable to plant the potatoes when their shoots are 0.5 – 1 inch (1.5 – 2.5 cm) long.
